Get Cysts Out Of Your Water

Cysts is a type of parasite that exist in the gut of animals.

Source of Water Contamination: When animals excrete feces with contain this parasite, it can run off into water sources, contaminating lakes, rivers and reservoirs..

Drinking Water Standards: There is no maximum contaminant level (mcl) for this parasite set by the EPA.

Water treatment facilities that get their water from rivers, lakes, and reservoirs typically filter for this organism. But there is still a risk of this chlorine-resistant parasite surviving and causing an outbreak of gastrointestinal illnesses.

This occurred in September of 2007, when illnesses caused by water borne parasites affected residents in parts of Colorado, Idaho and Montana.

Health Effects: Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps may result from ingesting water contaminated by this parasite.

How To Remove This Parasite From Drinking Water: Use water filters or purifiers certified to Applicable NSF/ANSI Standard 53 or Standard 58. A carbon filter, countertop water filter, reverse osmosis filter, undercounter water filtration system or water distiller is excellent for this purpose.

Please note that the water filtration devices mentioned above are also capable of removing other water borne parasites such as cryptosporidium, giardia and toxoplasma.
