Which Water Purifier Removes The Chlordane In Drinking Water

The US Environmental Protection Agency regulates the chlordane in drinking water (otherwise called chlordane water) because this contaminant may be harmful to public health.

What Is Chlordane: It is a white, solid, synthetic organic chemical that has a slight, chlorine-like smell.

Chlordane was used as a insecticide in the US until 1988 when it was banned by the US EPA. It is only permitted to be used for fire ant control in power transformers.

Source of Contaminant: Chlordane can get in the water supply whenever it is used as an insecticide. This contaminant sticks to the soil and gradually enters the ground water supply.

Drinking Water Contaminant: Under the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act, The U.S Environmental Protection Agency was mandated by Congress to determine the maximum contaminant level for (MCL) certain drinking water contaminants.

The EPA believes that if a particular drinking water contaminant exists in the water supply at levels above the MCL, that water would pose a health risk.

If a particular contaminant exist in the water supply at levels above the MCL, your water supplier is duty bound to reduce the contamination. Your water supplier must also notify you and other customers within 30 days of the violation.

The MCL for chlordane in water is 0.002 mg/L.

Health Hazards: If over a protracted period of time, you drink water that contains chlordane at levels above the MCL you could experience liver or nervous system problems and increased risk of cancer.

Home Water Treatment: Water authorities do what they can to prevent chlordane contamination from reaching your water supply. However, why not further safeguard your family's health from this drinking water contaminant by installing a water purification system.

Such a system will remove chlordane from your home tap water should municipal water purification fail to remove it at the dam or reservoir.

However, before you rush out a buy a home water purifier, bear in mind that not all purifiers are made equal. One water purifier may be able to remove chlordane from your water supply but another may not be able to do so.

To be sure you are getting the right water purification system, acquire one that is certified to NSF 53 standard. NSF certification provides a guarantee that the home water purifier you are using is capable of removing organic chemicals such as the chlordane in drinking water.

This under counter water purifier and counter top water purifier are both certified to NSF 53 standard.
